One Game of Thrones Lesson That Applies To Your Career

Has anyone else been keeping up with GOT? A few weeks ago, there was an episode with one line that really stuck with me. I might butcher it. Varys said to one of his little spies, “The greater the risk, the greater the reward.”

I remember feeling a whirlwind of anxious excitement when I became a participant in a post-graduate training group in 1984. It felt RISKY. And the rewards? I’m still counting them today.

I knew that participating in training groups was both a real privilege and a real challenge. Thank God. These groups significantly upped my game as a therapist and gave me experiences I really didn’t expect.

The comradery we shared as we all accessed deeper and more REAL layers of courage and vulnerability provided the opportunity to be known personally and professionally, a rare kind of intimacy. Such is the wonder of gathering with a group of like-minded, committed healing arts professionals in a crucible of learning.

I’m continuing to enjoy conversations with coaches, spiritual directors and therapists who are considering applying for the AAIT Fellowship Training group which starts in August. You can learn more about FTG here.

In the meantime, have a listen to what Sarah McNamara, L.C.S.W. has to say about her experience in the AAIT FTG.
